If you suffer with hearing loss you may be entitled to a government grant

The PRSI Treatment Benefit Scheme in Ireland covers the cost of a pair of hearing aids up to €1,000 once every 4 years, or up to €500 for a single hearing aid. So if you’ve been paying a PRSI contribution, you could be entitled to free or discounted hearing aids.

The grant is funded by the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection.

Check eligibility

Who can claim

The PRSI grant is available to insured workers, self-employed and retired people who have made the required number of PRSI contributions. To find out more about your eligibility visit citizensinformation.ie or ask us to check your eligibility.

If your PRSI contributions level means you are not eligible, it can be possible to claim on behalf of your spouse, as long as they provide consent, by completing an ME2 form. Our expert audiologist can help guide you through this process.

Hearing aid repairs are covered too

If your hearing aids need a little care and repair not covered by your warranty, you can claim a PRSI grant towards the cost of any repairs to your hearing aids. You can claim up to €100 in every 4 year period, with a maximum of one claim for each hearing aid. You can find out more at Treatment Benefit Scheme – Citizensinformation.ie

Tax relief on your hearing aids

Whether you are eligible for a PRSI grant or not, you may be able to claim back 20% tax relief on any purchase or hearing aids you make. Ask your Pinnacle Hearing audiologist for more information on how you can claim.
